Greetings to all of you who have so kindly followed Henry Caldwell in THE FOX OF ‘56 and his quest to save a Hungarian scientist during Hungary’s 1956 Uprising.
I’m taking a break this weekend to honor our 250th anniversary and Independence Day. That word, “Independence” is one I never take lightly. We are blessed to enjoy the freedoms we enjoy in America, unlike the citizens of countries who live under the thumb and hammer of socialist and communist countries.
And if you’re following THE FOX OF ‘56 you’re getting a slight flavor of what life was like for Hungarians under Russian rule during the 50s, and up until the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989. My family and my wife’s family experienced some of those hardships, so we value our freedoms with great respect and will never forget those who sacrificed their lives to live in freedom.
This is why I’m taking a break, a moment in time, and a weekend, to remember and honor the brave patriots who fought for their freedom against the British and who forged this country. We’re not perfect by any means, but what country or individual is?
THE FOX OF ‘56 will be back next Tuesday with a new episode. Thanks again for reading. I hope you and yours have a thoughtful Independence Day this weekend.
Happy Independence Day, Z.J.! Enjoy your time off!
