Happy Monday cool cats and hot kittens! The days are winding down to the end of 2024 and I’m excited to begin a new year, not so much to gleefully toss out the old, for there are lessons to be learned from our past and how we maneuvered or stalled in the face of challenges and how we handled both wins and losses. But I’m excited because there’s something exhilarating about new beginnings and new ways of approaching the day—everyday. There are always good things to keep and plenty of bad habits (speaking for myself) to delete, toss, or burn.
I came across a poem I wrote in 2007 right before Christmas, so it has a Christmas tone to it but it’s also a call for reflection. Hope you enjoy it.
As always, thanks for stopping by to read my bad poetry. Best wishes to you and yours for a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year!
P.S. If you’re following my fiction, look for my newsletter, IN OTHER WORDZ, starting up again on January 7 for a new episodic mystery under the working title NOIR IN MY CAR and the adventures of private eye Marco X. Polo, who drives the mean streets of Denver in a souped up Nash Rambler looking for new clients who pay in cash.
Another Season Comes “Round
by ZJ Czupor
Colder are the days. Darker are the nights.
Our big blue earth tilts. Great geese take flight.
Mystic winds stir by. Brittle leaves flitter and fall.
Another season comes ‘round do you hear the call?
The short days count down. Another year ends.
What did we do? Where are our friends?
The winter winds howl. Stormy snows will fall.
Another season comes ‘round do you hear the call?
Glorious bells in concert ring. Choirs of winged angels sing.
Strong men stop to bend on knee. In praise of the newborn king.
In tradition we trim the tree. We wreath the hall.
Another season comes ‘round but did you hear the call?
It’s a time to gather and collect. To pause in heart and reflect.
What is our reason? What is our effect?
Yes, another season comes ‘round do you hear the call?
Go and be peace on earth. Give goodwill to all.
Yes, it is that time of year. Excellent poem.
perfect for this windy, cold day! With snow falling in the mts. Enjoyed it very much. Thank you!
